February 2025

For the 8th SLHAM de Dones Cientifiques, to celebrate women in science, our lovely Meritxell Pons Espinal presented on stem cell modelling of neuropathology in Parkinson’s, which one of the key focuses of our lab.

Thank you to Meri and all of our other astounding female scientists, we hope to inspire the next in line for generations to come!

In our final week, following some festive activities, we ended the year with the Valentina Baruffi´s thesis defense on Modelling Neuro-Immune Interactions in Parkinson´s Disease Using an Autologous-Based iPSC System.

Following this head-turning presentation (and some champagne!) we are proud to announce her successful award of the PhD. Bravo, Doctor Baruffi!

PhD student Veronica Testa produced and presented a poster on the contribution of astrocytes and microglia to PD pathology using hiPSC modelling and scRNA sequencing. Favulosa!
