For the 8th SLHAM de Dones Cientifiques, to celebrate women in science, our lovely Meritxell Pons Espinal presented on stem cell modelling of neuropathology in Parkinson’s, which one of the key focuses of our lab.
Thank you to Meri and all of our other astounding female scientists, we hope to inspire the next in line for generations to come!

DECEMBER 2024
In our final week, following some festive activities, we ended the year with the Valentina Baruffi´s thesis defense on Modelling Neuro-Immune Interactions in Parkinson´s Disease Using an Autologous-Based iPSC System.
Following this head-turning presentation (and some champagne!) we are proud to announce her successful award of the PhD. Bravo, Doctor Baruffi!

To end the year with a bang, we joined forces with the P-CMRC (Clinical Translation of Regenerative Medicine Program, Catalunya, whom also work in Hospital Duran i Reynals) to pull off a large scale secret santa with a twist! Also known as White Elephant, everyone bought a gift to deploy in the central box, after which names are pulled out of a hat to draw a gift at random, or steal from another player.
It was an entertaining way to bring everyone together with some festive cheer. The game continues until no gifts remain and everyone is left with one item, so we can assure you that all was kept amicable!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
¡Feliz Navidad, Bon Nadal, Buon Natale!
NOVEMBER 2024
2024 RegenBell Symposium on Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine. In this two day information-packed collective, attracting science from here in Barcelona and beyond, our PhD student Valentina Baruffi conducted a talk on her thesis work on Microglia and T-Cell contribution to Parkinson’s Pathology.
Moreover, as the lunch break gave even more opportunity for science, poster presentations from David Piñol, Aurora Scrivo, Veronica Testa, Neus Otero and Jara Montero Muñoz turned heads among other scientists. We were also very pleased to meet other inspiring researchers from across Europe!
NOVEMBER 2024
We are very pleased to announce that we have received a La CaixaResearch grant for developing a cure for a lethal degenerative genetic disease that affects children, called adrenoleukodystrophy.
The project is led by Aurora Pujol from IDIBELL and will be researched in collaboration with Manel Esteller, from the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute, and the Spanish Association against Leucodystrophies.
NOVEMBER 2024
The ninth edition of the IDIBELL PhD Day was held at the Bellvitge Campus of the UB, where all our PhD students presented posters and oral presentations.
A big well done to David Piñol, Veronica Testa, and Jara Montero Muñoz… but especially to Valentina Baruffi – who was awarded the prize of “Best Oral Presentation”!
