Research in Consiglio’s group aims to develop advanced in vitro human disease models, including 3D brain organoids and iPSC-based disease models, which may have important clinical outcomes, such as development of diagnostic tools and novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases, namely Parkinson’s disease (PD).

Beyond PD, we are also working on Tyrosine Hydroxylase deficiency (THD), a rare genetic disease which leads to Pediatric Parkinsonism (PP). We are in the process of identifiaction and subsequent validation of therapeutic possibilities which aim to restore a healthy phenotype.

Recently, in collaboration with Dr. Dalmau and Dr. Martínez from the Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, we began to pursue a stem cell-based diagnostic approach for detection of autoimmune encephalitis.
